DUTIES Pastoral care of the parish, namely, ensuring that all the sacramental needs of the people are taken care of.  This means that I have to make sure that there is Mass every Sunday and on week days, that people receive the sacrament of reconciliation when they need it, that all the other sacraments are conferred as and when appropriate – baptism, confirmation, holy communion, holy matrimony.  Also this means visiting patients in hospitals under our care – Milpark Hospital, Donald Gordon Medical Centre, and Netcare Rehabilitation – and give them holy communion and where necessary the sacrament of the holy anointing.

Administration of the parish, namely, coordinating all the different parish groups and giving them guidance as to what is of greatest need in our parish and for our parish.  It also means chairing the Parish Pastoral Council, which comprises of 20 people; also chairing the Parish Finance Committee, which comprises of 4 people and which is responsible for all the financial administration of our parish, particularly drawing up the budget and monitoring its implementation, organising different fund raising activities when required, etc., and making the final decisions regarding any financial matters of the parish; and being accountable to the Archdiocese on all financial expenditures of the parish by duly sending the quarterly reports.

Spiritual guidance and direction, namely, helping different groups in the parish and sometimes individuals in their spiritual journey.  This means guiding them in finding a link between their ordinary lives and their spiritual journey.
